Regardless of your spending habits, there are lots of ways to Feed the Pig. While the savings from changing a single habit may not seem like much, making changes in a few areas of your life can easily add up to thousands of dollars within a single year. Here are some favorite tips to beating your inner-under-saver. But before you dive in, check out these best practices:
- Make a budget and review it regularly. In order to develop your budget, keep all of your receipts for a month or two. That way you can get a realistic sense of where you are in your current spending.
- Talk to your partner or close friends about your finances. While it may seem taboo, no one wins when you're mum about money. Create a budget together, cook in bulk and exchange dishes or play cards (but keep the stakes low!).
- As that old song goes: "Don't stop thinking about tomorrow."
